How do you get gnomes out of your garden? They keep on drinking and falling asleep next to a wheel barrel.?

The Garden Gnomes lives in old gardens…. so you might want to update your garden, and make the new one without a wheel barrel.

If that doesn’t work, here is another idea based on personal experiences: I run a Bed and Breakfast for Gnomes who love to travel, and learned a lot about them through some of the wonderful guests who could not talk enough about their love of travel when we all watched the movie "Amelie" together.

When I first became the chef at my B&B my guests informed me Gnomes love veggies, fruits (especially preserves) and nuts of all kinds. As a beverage, usually Gnomes drinks mead dew (fermented honey), fermented raspberries (which have a very high alcohol content), and spiced gin as a nightcap. So… short of buying your garden Gnomes one way tickets elsewhere… and getting rid of every plant locally which can be turned into alcohol, I think a good idea would be to seek out the King Gnome among your house Gnomes, befriend him and ask for the King’s help.

When I wanted to update my old garden, I knew my garden Gnome would want to move on … but I did not want to displace him, so the King among my house Gnomes offered some friendly advice, (House Gnomes have the most knowledge of man, often speaking his language and this is where the line of King Gnomes come from). The King among my house Gnomes, King Matioraque, suggested the two of us befriend my garden Gnome, using the King as an interpreter, over a bottle of fermented honey, he was kind enough to supply. He suggested I offer to take my garden Gnome for a ride, with the intent of moving to a fruit and nut orchard or a vegetable farm/stand (which sold preserves), just before I began renovation on my old garden. My garden Gnome, (who calls himself Jakarmism, Gnomes choose their own names) agreed and together we found a lovely place … I gave him my wheel barrel and a bottle of spiced gin, as a fare well/garden warming present which delighted him to no end. It turns out my kindness paid off in unexpected ways… one being, my ‘Bed and Breakfast for Gnomes’ has become famous, (now known among Gnomes as ‘ THE Bed and Breakfast for Gnomes Who Love to Travel’ and has been busier than ever!

Jakarmism just called back (I asked for his advice), and said to tell you… for Garden Gnomes to feel secure enough to drink and fall asleep around your wheel barrel, it is because they have come to like you… and it is their way of honoring you … and he is sure, once your King Gnome explains to your garden Gnomes, your perspective, that they will be willing to move on, or even compromise with you through volunteering to change their garden etiquette, since they are predominantly peace loving beings.

If none of that works for you … you could as a last resort buy a Gnome Be Gone at: http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?itemId=14503 BUT… before doing that please remember, Gnomes are indeed predominately peaceful beings and they seek to honor those humans they respect and have grown fond of, those who are from their perspective, worthy people. They mean no harm to you or your garden … and, the males are the guardians of animal kind and show little preference for their animal friends, not withstanding their aversion to cats both wild and domesticated. They are known for freeing wildlife from man’s traps and for operating on farm animals whose owners have neglected them or who are simply to poor to afford Vet’s.

By the way… IF you decide you don’t want to use the Gnome Be Gone, and have learned how to communicate with them and find them to be wonderful beings, like I do, you could always consider seeking to join them in their merry making, or for an occasional night cap … just make sure when you do, you bring a preset alarm clock with you and a blanket for cool nights, so no one finds you asleep in your garden come morning. Their mead is pretty powerful! *big wide grin
